Jeff Zucker, the former president of CNN, which calls itself “the most trusted name in news”, is reportedly being replaced with a new president now.
The left-leaning network appears to have found a fitting replacement in Chris Licht. Licht has a history of left-wing media participation that is closely related to shows that flirt with political activism. For example, Licht is currently employed by Stephen Colbert’s late-night “comedy” show.
Many have argued that Colbert’s show borders on the line between comedy and left-wing political ranting. Sometimes the ranting turns viewers off, never to return.
But that hasn’t affected their opinions of how much they despise former President Trump on shows like Colbert’s. This new presidential announcement for CNN may beg the question for many of whether or not anything will change at all. Licht also has a history at MSNBC, particularly being part of the “Morning Joe” show, another anti-Trump avenue.
This follows other news, however, that billionaire John Malone could potentially take over at CNN, taking it in a new direction.
For now, though, it seems it may just be business as usual, minus, Chris Cuomo and Jeff Zucker of course. Oh, and let’s not forget the producer from CNN who was accused of sexually grooming children.
From Town Hall:
According to Puck, which first reported the hiring Saturday, the acquisition of Licht is likely to officially be announced at, or ahead of, a special Discovery shareholders meeting on March 11.
“Licht has more than two decades of television news experience,” CNN media reporter Brian Stelter wrote of the news. “He has a reputation as a hands-on producer and talent manager with a keen interest in politics and news.”
He will only oversee news once he officially begins his role as CNN president. Zucker oversaw news and sports during his time at CNN. It is unclear who will oversee the sports department.
