Dzhokhar Tsarnaev will face the death penalty after all. The Supreme Court ruled 6-3 to reinstate his death penalty. The DOJ under both the Trump and Biden administrations had also argued for keeping the death penalty.
It’s surprising that three Supreme Court Justices may be seen by some as not wanting justice for Boston Bombing victims. The three radical justices who supported keeping Tsarnaev alive in a comfy cozy jail cell were the three liberal justices.
“Dzhokhar Tsarnaev committed heinous crimes,” said Conservative Justice Clarence Thomas. He stood firm that Tsarnaev deserved a fair trial, but that in his opinion, he did in fact receive one, contrary to what others believe.
The court reversed a federal appeals court ruling in 2020 that wiped away the Boston bomber’s death sentence. Four were killed and hundreds were maimed and injured. Dzhokhar’s brother was already killed, but via a gunfight, while Tamerlan, the other man’s name, was being captured.
It was the Trump Administration that stepped in asking for the eventual ruling that the SCOTUS just gave out. The Biden Administration, however, supported the request as well, surprisingly to us.
Dzhokhar is being held in a Florence, Colorado, federal prison. It’s unclear how swiftly the death penalty will be handed down.
The Daily Wire reported in part:
In 2013, two brothers — immigrants from Chechnya turned Islamic extremist radicals — detonated a homemade bomb at the finish line of the Boston Marathon in Boston, Massachusetts. The blast killed three and injured hundreds more.
The Boston Marathon occurs each year, typically on the state holiday Patriots’ Day, and is attended by thousands of people, many from around the world. The attack shocked the state and the nation, and led to a manhunt throughout Boston’s suburbs.
During that search, one brother was struck by a bullet and pronounced dead at a local hospital. The surviving brother attempted to flee, hiding in a boat in a backyard in Watertown, Massachusetts, before authorities located and arrested him.
