Richard Roat, Seinfeld and Friends Actor Tragically Dies at 89

Richard Roat passed away on August 5th at the age of 89 according to his obituary which was published in the LA Times.

According to his obituary the “biggest Lakers and Angels fan”. Married to the love of his life Kathy for the past forty years.

His onscreen career began in 1962 playing the uncredited role of Garfield on the cop sitcom Car 54, Where Are You?. His last role listed was for the TV drama 24 in 2009.

Roat had 135 acting credits to his name including TV and Broadway. His longest-running role was on the soap opera The Doctors.

More recently he played a doctor on a Seinfeld episode titled “Difficult Patient” where Elaine sees multiple doctors about an itch. He also had a part in a notable Friends episode in which Ross is found out to be dating one of his students. Roat plays a professor who informs Ross that he will be fired for dating the student much to Ross’s surprise.

In addition to acting, Roat had a successful practice entertainment tax preparer.

Details regarding his pass have not been made public.

His obituary concluded with, “Richard will be missed by family, friends, colleagues, and clients. He will be thought of often, with warm memories and a quiet chuckle for all the good times he brought to our lives.”
