Boise School Board President Dave Wagers issued a statement on board member Shiva Rajbhandari’s vulgar tweet. Wagers apologized to Republican Idaho Governor Brad Little on behalf of the board for Rajbhandari’s language:
“We start every regular Board meeting with the reading of our District’s values, saying we will conduct this meeting following our course values of Respect, Dignity, Honesty, Teamwork, and Responsibility. Our Board is fully invested in these values and does our best to live up to these values when fulfilling our roles and obligations as Trustees for the Boise School District. One board member, Shiva Rajbhandari, while acting in his individual capacity strayed from the values of Respect, Dignity and Teamwork.
The Board of the Boise School District does not condone, approve of, or endorse the language that Shiva Rajbhandari used in his Twitter account. His words do not exemplify the Dignity and Respect the Boise School District works so hard to earn every day. His actions have also damaged our Teamwork, which we strive so hard to build both on our board and in the District.
Though he was not speaking for the District, nor in his official capacity as a Trustee, we apologize to the Governor on behalf of the District for the language and would like all to know that Mr. Rajbhandari’s choice of words is in no way reflective of District leadership other than himself.”
Below is the tweet Rajbhandari sent out after learning that HB71 was signed into law. The bill bans hormone therapy and surgery on minors who wish to transition in the state of Idaho.
In response to the statement issued by the School Board president, Rajbhandari issued a statement of his own:
“I have received some concerns that the language in my last tweet was inappropriate and inconsistent with my position as a school board member. Of course, my tweets are my own only and do not necessarily reflect the views of any organization with which I am affiliated, nor would I engage or condone such sentiment or language in a board meeting or a classroom.
My Strong language is reflective of my anger and frustration with the pointlessness of diplomatic dialogue with legislators and a governor who have shown such little regard for the lives of Idaho youth. The Hypocrisy of suggesting that a profane tweet is more harmful than what HB 71 could unleash on our trans and non-binary youth baffles me. I remain unapologetic in my commitment to the LGBTQ+ community.”
He also added commentary in his tweet sharing his statement:
“Sometimes we need to feel all the feels and say what we’re really thinking. Out of respect for my colleagues, below is my statement addressing my last tweet. I remain steadfast in my love for Idaho’s trans community and in my rage at our leaders over passage of this hateful bill.”
“Our fight isn’t over. Please consider supporting @acluidaho as they pursue legal action against the state for this unconstitutional provision and @AddTheWords as they continue to do life-saving work protecting our trans and non-binary community members.”
Rajbhandari is clearly not sorry or apologetic for his vulgar tweet. He only doubles down and tries to use his emotions to justify his tweet.
The school board president may have apologized but it appears that no action will be taken to hold Rajbhandari responsible for his disgusting words.
A left leaning local news affiliate seemingly tried to present a “balanced” view on the vulgar tweets. It seems that there will be no other actions at least maybe until his seat is up for a vote.
