Fox News broke the news today that President Trump’s former aide, who’s life was arguably ruined by the Democrat’s Robert Mueller witch hunt with the help of a dirty dossier used to try to tar and feather the president is suing the Democratic National Committee. A lawsuit was filed Thursday in federal court, also against law firm Perkins Coie and its partners who were tied to financing the unverified dossier that the late Senator John McCain and others had a hand in peddling.
This suit was filed in US District Court in the Northern District of Illinois’ Eastern Division. Paige’s attorneys are reported to be on record as saying that this is only the “first of multiple actions in the wake of historic” Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) abuse. As reported by Fox News:
“This is a first step to ensure that the full extent of the FISA abuse that has occurred during the last few years is exposed and remedied,” attorney John Pierce said Thursday. “Defendants and those they worked with inside the federal government did not and will not succeed in making America a surveillance state.”
He added: “This is only the first salvo. We will follow the evidence wherever it leads, no matter how high. … The rule of law will prevail.”
Page filed his own defamation suit back in October of 2018 in Oklahoma federal court, but that was, unfortunately for him, dismissed. As can be seen by today’s news though, he clearly did not give up after that setback. Back in the Oklahoma case, a judge had actually ruled that the court wasn’t in the right jurisdiction to handle that case because neither of the parties to the lawsuit had strong enough ties to Oklahoma. Civil suits can be tricky sometimes and it isn’t always clear where these things are supposed to be hashed out.
It’s not uncommon for one to spend lots of time and money chasing after a suit like this, although it may be worth it to restore a reputation or something along those lines. Similarly, the party of the receiving end of the suit may be tied up for months and years as well, and have to spend lots of money defending themselves, whether they were in the wrong or not. As far as this particular case goes though, time will tell what the outcome will be. Fox also reported:
Page is now represented by Pierce, the global managing partner of Pierce Bainbridge Beck Price & Hecht LLP. They filed in Illinois because they allege the relationship with the firm behind the dossier, Fusion GPS, was “orchestrated” through law firm Perkins Coie’s Chicago office. The suit also claims the DNC “has a historical pattern” of making Chicago its principal place of business.
In the suit which alleges that the DNC, Perkins Coie and partners Marc Elias and Michael Sussman “used false information, misrepresentations and other misconduct to direct the power of the international intelligence apparatus and the media industry against” Carter Page “to further their political agenda”, it is unclear how much money Page is seeking. He is looking for his pound of flesh so to speak, and rightfully so in the eyes of many, and expects monetary amounts to be discussed later.
The Dossier written by Christopher Steele, who Sean Hannity rants about often on Fox News about, among many other “deep state” actors, was filled with unprovable claims about President Trump and his associates and was used in part with the FISA court to jumpstart the Mueller-Russia investigation. Page’s suit specifically mentions Page was damaged in the following way, saying that the parties “misrepresented Dr. Page’s connections to and interactions with certain foreign nationals in order to create the false impression that Dr. Page —a law-abiding American citizen who served his country honorably in the United States Navy and in the private sector—was in fact an agent of a foreign power, Russia.”
The suit goes on to say that the parties leveraged fabrications within the FBI and DOJ, leading these agencies to present false applications to the FISA court. IG Horowitz in a recent report indeed found that the FBI’s FISA applications to monitor Page heavily relied on the dirty dossier and news reports sourced from Steele’s loosely based info in it. Check the Fox News link above for further details about the suit as the responses from various pundits and government figures are likely to come shortly thereafter.
Carter Page filed suit against the DNC this morning. He says it’s the first of many steps he will take to regain his good name now that FISA abuse has been discovered and documented. https://t.co/h1JT4lIW9A
