There have been some differing reports as to whether or not Trey Gowdy is accepting an offer to be a part of President Trump’s legal team. As of right now, it looks like he did, in fact, accept the offer. He will not be a part of the official White House cabinet but will be assistant as outside counsel on the impeachment fight. BREAKING: CNN reports that former South Carolina Republican Representative Trey Gowdy has accepted an offer to serve as outside counsel to President Donald Trump

The Washington Examiner Reported that he declined to represent Trump, but they referenced information from a tweet that was hours ago. Kaitlan Collins from CNN issued a confusing dual tweet that appeared to be saying Gowdy wasn’t actually joining the Trump team, but the clarification was just to say that he isn’t joining the actual Trump administration. He does indeed though, appear to be joining the legal team, as reported by a few other outlets.

Gowdy is not expected to join the administration. Allies reached out to him recently to help with the impeachment fight, which brought him to the White House today. He’s currently working at a South Carolina firm.

Former U.S. Rep. Gowdy has been in the news a lot, talking about all things Trump, and is a fan favorite for Trump supporters who like watching him on Fox News. This is likely to come as a welcomed relief to many who are concerned about the impeachment situation.
Bloomberg reported as well on the news:
Donald Trump has enlisted former Representative Trey Gowdy to work with the White House team combating the U.S. House’s impeachment inquiry into the president, people familiar with the matter said on Tuesday.
Gowdy, a former prosecutor from South Carolina, is not formally joining the White House staff, according to the people. He was at the White House on Tuesday, according to one person who saw him there, before an eight-page letter was issued to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi declaring that Trump and the administration wouldn’t participate in the impeachment inquiry.
