Jason Chaffetz Talks Up Durham Investigation Expansion: Bad News For Brennan and Clapper

This morning former U.S. Rep. from Utah Jason Chaffetz (R) was on Fox & Friends to talk about the expansion of the investigation into the origins of the Russia probe, which was launched immediately after the 2016 election that Donald Trump won. Chief investigator John Durham, who was appointed by William Barr, announced yesterday he will be expanding the investigation. Chaffetz states this is “very bad news” for John Brennan and James Clapper.

John Brennan the former CIA Director, left the position on Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20, 2017. Brennan was also formerly head of Home Land Security appointed by former President Barack Obama. In an interview, Brennan did with MSNBC earlier this month he stated he was “concerned” he would possibly be questioned by Durham for the investigation by the Justice Department into the origins of the Russia probe.

James Clapper is the former Director of National Intelligence who also left his position on  President Trump’s inauguration. Clapper has been a heavy critic of President Trump taking many opportunities to criticize the president.

Earlier this month Clapper gave an interview on CNN where he was asked “Are you concerned that Barr’s or Durham’s investigation will find wrongdoing and seek to punish former intelligence officials?” he responded with “Well, I uh, I don’t know. I, I don’t think there was any wrongdoing.” Later in the interview he says “It’s kind of disconcerting now to be investigated for, you know, having done our duty and done what we were told to do by the president.” Clapper was referring to former President Barack Obama.

It seems that both men are nervous about potentially being held responsible for actions taken under the directive of the Obama. Are Brennan and Clapper throwing him under the bus for things that manifested under his direction? That remains to be seen.
