Andy Biggs and MTG Issue Major Statements on Ohio Train Derailment Disaster Asking Questions and Challenging Pete Buttigieg

A Norfolk Southern train derailed in East Palestine Ohio on February 3rd. The derailment resulted in a massive fire and two days later on February 5th Republican Governor Mike Dewine asked residents to evacuate due to the possibility of an explosion.

“East Palestine: Residents living within a mile of the train derailment site who have not yet left their homes are asked to immediately evacuate due to the potential of a major explosion.”

On Monday the 6th of February Norfolk Southern released toxic chemicals from five of the derailed tanker cars in an effort to stop a larger explosion. One of the chemicals released was vinyl chloride which is linked to a few different types of cancer.

On February 8th DeWine issued a statement that it was safe for individuals to return home. This has left many unsettled as reports of dead animals including fish in the waters were surfacing. However, according to tot DeWine’s statement the air quality testing that had been done deemed the area safe.

Some U.S. House Reps have shared their concern over what they are calling an “ecological disaster”

Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) tweeted a video compilation from the derailment as well as:

“East Palestine, Ohio is undergoing an ecological disaster bc authorities blew up the train derailment cars carrying hazardous chemicals and press are being arrested for trying to tell the story. Oh but UFO’s! What is going on?”

Andy Biggs (R-AZ) shared the same video along with calling out Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg:

“The recent train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio is nothing short of a tragedy. This is another transportation failure under Mayor Pete’s leadership. Where is he?”

Lauren Boebert (R-CO) asked where is Buttigieg in a tweet:

“Pete Buttigieg is nowhere to be found YET AGAIN as toxic chemicals are spewing out in East Palestine, Ohio after a train crash. While he’s worried about “racist highways”, our nation’s transit systems are falling apart.”

She shortly followed that up with:

“Pete Buttigieg has finally emerged today. Not a single comment about the train crash in Ohio. Instead, he bemoaned the whiteness of the construction industry. It’s a miracle that this country is able to function at all under this regime.”

Greg Price shared a video of Butigeig from Monday, which showed the Transportation Secretary making a speech about construction workers not reflecting their community.

“Buttigieg made no mention of the Ohio train derailment while speaking at a conference this morning but did find the time to say that there are too many white people who work construction.”

Many it seems are unsure of what to do as they find it hard to believe that with the chemicals released from the derailment, it is now safe to go home.
