Anthony Sabatini Chastises Kevin McCarthy for ‘Weak’ Answer When Asked if he will Tear Up Joe Biden’s SOTU Speech as Nancy Pelosi Did Donald Trump’s

Former GOP Florida state rep Anthony Sabatini today chastised House Speaker Kevin McCarthy for giving a “weak” answer when asked if he will tear up Joe Biden’s State of the Union speech as Nancy Pelosi did former President Donald Trump’s.

McCarthy shared a clip of himself during a discussion with Fraternal Order of Police representatives and said, “A lot of people have been asking if I’m planning on ripping up President Biden’s speech tonight.”

“Here’s my answer:” McCarthy said of the clip. In the clip, McCarthy said, “You know, I don’t believe in the theatrics of tearing up speeches.”

“I respect the other side. I can disagree on policy, but I want to make sure this country is stronger, economically sound, energy independent, secure, accountable,” McCarthy explained.

Sabatini responded to the clip, “Weak.”

In an interview with CNN’s Manu Raju, McCarthy emphasized, “We’re members of Congress. We have a code of ethics of how we should portray ourselves.”

“And that’s exactly what we’ll do. But we’re not going to do childish games tearing up a speech,” McCarthy added.

CNN’s Melanie Zanona reported, however, that privately, McCarthy has expressed concerns about his own caucus’ behavior and has warned them about their conduct.

Pelosi called ripping up Trump’s third State of the Union speech to Congress at the time the “courteous thing to do, considering the alternatives.”
