Report: Network Eyeing Matthew McConaughey to Replace Kevin Costner For ‘Yellowstone’ Franchise Extension

It was reported yesterday that the Paramount Network is eyeing actor Matthew McConaughey to replace actor Kevin Costner for a “Yellowstone” franchise extension.

According to Deadline, Taylor Sheridan, the co-creator and showrunner, Paramount Global and Paramount Network are moving to end “Yellowstone” in its current form.

However, a Paramount spokesperson refused to confirm or deny the speculation in a statement to the outlet.

The spokesperson told them, “We have no news to report. Kevin Costner is a big part of Yellowstone and we hope that’s the case for a long time to come.”

“Thanks to the brilliant mind of Taylor Sheridan, we are always working on franchise expansions of this incredible world he has built,” the statement continued.

The spokesperson added, “Matthew McConaughey is a phenomenal talent with whom we’d love to partner.”

Costner apparently has disagreed with the network about his shooting schedules, which could lead to his potential departure.

Additionally, Costner has started his own western project with Jon Baird, “Horizon,” and has made the decision to move on to that show after declining the most recent proposal.

Costner’s schedule has been a source of frustration for Sheridan and it is understood to be causing morale problems for the other stars of “Yellowstone.”

  1. Costner is too conservative for the show if they proceed they will not care if the show is never watched and they do not care if it goes down the tubes.
