AZ State Sen. Wendy Rogers Proposes Bill to ‘Fix’ the Vote Counting Process and ‘Make it Easier to Catch and Prevent’ Irregularities

Arizona Republican State Sen. Wendy Rogers, who has already proposed a number of bills so far in the early legislative session, has introduced another one, this time one that would have called for a recount of the 2020 presidential election results in her state.

Rogers tweeted, “I am proud to support election integrity by proposing a bill that increases the automatic recount margin from 1/10th of a percent to 1/2 of a percent.”

The margin in November between former President Trump and President Biden was 3/10th of a percent in the state.

“It also gives campaigns the option to pay for a recount above the margin and if the challenge is successful, the state will reimburse the campaign for the expenses of the recount,” Rogers added.

Rogers then urged constituents to “Please call your state reps and senators and ask them to support SB1654” and included a link to the bill.

The Arizona State Senate today failed in an attempt to hold the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors in contempt as lawmakers seek to conduct their own audit of the presidential election results as Sen. Paul Boyer broke with the Republican caucus and cast the crucial vote against the measure.

The Senate issued subpoenas in December and January demanding copies of all the county’s mail-in ballots and access to voting machines, but county officials have not released the ballots or voting machines, contending that state law requires the ballots to be sealed unless a judge says otherwise.

On Friday, the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors asked a judge to quash the subpoenas, arguing that they’re unlawful and invalid on several grounds.

In a statement released earlier today regarding that lawsuit and before the failed contempt vote, the Senate Republicans said that “the county backtracks on several commitments made in an agreement with the Senate.”

The statement also said that “Arizonans are asking for a true, detailed audit of the vote.”
