Bad news for Michigan’s liberal Governor Gretchen Whitmer, as terrorism charges were dropped against two men. The men were accused of being part of a plot to kidnap Whitmer. Many politicians get threats, especially outspoken ones. Whitmer was one to make sure everyone knew how many mean things people said about her.
That’s not to downplay any possible actual threats, which we of course absoluately disavow. Nevertheless, sometimes politicians play things up in our view, to get attention or media coverage. We’re not implying that was the case with these three men, but Whitmer herself may lean more towards that type of politician based on other complaints she’s made.
26-year-old Joseph Morrison and 43-year-old Pete Musico were two of a total of eight men charged in the alleged kidnapping plot. They are the ones who had the terrorism charges dropped. Three men may still face other charges.
The judge also did not move forward with a threat of terrorism charge against a third man Paul Bellar, 22, which the prosecutors were hoping to land. “There has to be some form of intent here to incite mayhem,” said the judge. Judge Klaeren did indeed decide though, that there was enough evidence for other charges, including providing material in support for terrorist acts, gang membership, and using a firearm during a felony, to move forward with a trial for all three men.
“The intent is so clear that these individuals were going to do more than spout off threats to each other,” said the judge. Those three men were part of 8 total men who were hit with state charges, including Shawn Fix, Michael Null, William Null and Eric Molitor, for allegedly being part of the plot.
Stay tuned for potential updates on Gretchen Whitmer’s situation with those who allegedly threatened her.
Previously, Whitmer has trashed then President Trump for allegedly contributing to rhetoric that may have led to threats. “This is exactly the rhetoric that has put me, my family, and other government officials’ lives in danger while we try to save the lives of our fellow Americans. It needs to stop,” she tweeted, back on 10/17/2020.
