Biden Bobs and Weaves, Says ‘Gun Control is up to Congress’ and he can’t ‘Dictate this Stuff’ Amid Texas Tragedy

While speaking to reporters earlier today, President Biden addressed his limitations on executive action with gun control. Biden told reporters he has done what he can, but he can’t outlaw weapons, “I can’t dictate this stuff.” Biden emphasized gun control legislation falls on the shoulders of Congress.

White House correspondent, Allison Harris shared, “President Biden discussing his limitations on executive action on gun control, telling reporters he will take any action he can, but he can’t outlaw weapons, saying, “I can’t dictate this stuff.” Legislative action is up to Congress.”

Biden was asked if he thought Republicans would approach gun control differently, given the circumstances. Biden admitted that he hasn’t spoken to Republicans, so he wouldn’t know, but he thinks “they’re gonna have to take a hard look”. He reiterated that he has not yet engaged in a debate with Republicans, as he was focused on the families in Texas.

He then said, “I know it makes no sense to be able to purchase something that can fire up to 300 rounds.” Biden then claimed that the previous “Assault” weapons from 1994 “did significantly cut down on mass murders.”

He then went into a story from when he was a senator, Biden then claimed when talking to trauma doctors, he was told a, “9 mm bullet blows the lung out of the body.”

Senior White House correspondent, Shelby Talcott shared some of Biden’s comments from today, “Biden, talking about “rational gun laws,” says this morning that a “9 mm bullet blows the lung out of the body.” “There’s simply no rational basis for it in terms of self protection, hunting,” he added, per pool report.”

“The Constitution, the Second Amendment was never absolute. You couldn’t buy a cannon when the Second Amendment was passed,” Biden said. “I think things have gotten so bad that everybody is getting more rational about it.”

It remains to be seen, what action Congress will take with the country emotionally wound up after the Uvalde, TX school shooting. This horrible tragedy has sparked many to come out publicly and call for more gun control, with some even saying we need to give up some civil liberties, even some on the right.
