Biden ICE Nominee Drops Out as Border Security Disaster Spirals and Pressure from Texas Governor Mounts After 51 Immigrants Tragically Die in Truck

On Monday, a semi-truck with a refrigerator unit was found just after 6 pm near San Antonio Texas. Inside the trailer, 48 people were found dead and the rest of the individuals were transported to hospitals suffering from heat stroke. Two more people ended up dying at the hospital.

The people inside the truck were migrants being smuggled across the U.S.-Mexico border. It is unclear if the refrigerator unit wasn’t working or if the driver chose to keep the unit off to avoid detection. Temperatures in the area spanned between 90-100 degrees on Monday.

Yesterday shortly after the truck was found, Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) tweeted:

“At Least 42 People Found Dead Inside Truck Carrying Migrants In Texas. These deaths are on Biden. They are a result of his deadly open border policies. They show the deadly consequences of his refusal to enforce the law.”

This incident is among the deadliest tragedies of those trying to cross our border illegally. It is unclear how long those in the trailer had been dead, there were 12 adults and 4 children who were still alive and were taken to a local hospital.

The individuals in the truck were from Mexico, Honduras, and Guatemala. Since Biden has taken office the number of migrants that have crossed our border has been shocking and shows no sign that it is slowing down. Biden and his administration have seemingly done nothing to combat the surge of people entering our country. Some may say that Biden invited the migrants to come with his soft approach to the border.

This news comes on the same day that Biden’s nominee for ICE announced he had withdrawn his name from consideration. Instead, he will serve his second term as sheriff of Harris County. Ed Gonzalez had been waiting for the Senate to take a vote on his nomination for fourteen months. In part, the Senate had delayed the vote because of allegations of ” domestic violence” in March.

Gonzalez was a critic of ICE before he became Biden’s nominee.

On Monday Gonzalez announced on Twitter he had withdrawn:

“On Sunday, I informed President Biden’s administration that I am respectfully withdrawing from consideration for the post of Director of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement.More than a year has passed since the President nominated me for this important position, which has not had a Senate-confirmed director since the Obama administration.”

“I arrived at this decision after prayerfully considering what’s best for our nation, my family, and the people of Harris County who elected me to serve a second term as Sheriff. I am grateful to President Biden for the honor of nominating me, and I wish this administration well as it strives to overcome the paralyzing political gridlock that threatens far more than our nation’s border. Frankly, the dysfunction threatens America’s heart and soul.”

“My love for America and my desire to serve during these contentious times is stronger than ever. Ensuring the safety and security of the people of Harris County is a great honor, and I am fully devoted to continuing to fulfill this responsibility.”

Biden’s handling, or as some people see it, his hands-off approach to the border is a disaster with real consequences like the mass causality from Monday.
