After citing racial inequity, the advanced class programs for grades 4-6 have been suspended.
80% of students at Boston Public Schools are Black and Hispanic however, more than 70% of students enrolled in advanced classes are white and Asian. School Committee member, for the city of Boston, Lorna Rivera expressed frustration with this. “This is just not acceptable, I’ve never heard these statistics before, and I’m very very disturbed by them.”
Superintendent Brenda Cassellius also commented on the alleged racial inequity saying, “There’s a lot of work we have to do in the district to be antiracist and have policies where all of our students have a fair shot at an equitable and excellent education.”
Some believe those who decided to cancel these classes because they were essentially ‘too white’ have no place in this education system. This is the philosophy of the teachers and school staff, those who are teaching this generation of students.
Many see this as anti-White bias and hatred, which to them is clearly discriminating against Whites and Asians.
