Actor Bryan Cranston is just another liberal Hollywood actor to come out in support of Critical Race Theory. “Critical race theory, I think is essential to be teaching,” Cranston told Democrat Bill Maher while on his podcast ‘Club Random’.
During his time on Maher’s podcast, Cranston countered a point that Maher had made. Maher believes that Thomas Jefferson and George Washington should not be “canceled” for owning slaves.
Cranston countered with, “It’s 400 f–king years that we’ve dealt with this, and our country still has not taken responsibility or accountability.” He added that American needs to take responsibility, “for the history of the systemic racism that’s in this country.”
“Well, I mean, for one thing, critical race theory, I think is essential to be teaching,” he added.
Maher agreed with the systemic racism in America’s history but wasn’t buying the “critical race theory”.
“Critical race theory, I mean, it’s just one of these catch-all terms. If you mean we should honestly teach our past, of course; if you mean more what the 1619 book says, which is that it’s just the essence of America and that we are irredeemable, that’s just wrong,” Maher pushed back.
Cranston went on to add that schools need to “teach our past” and “be honest” with our country’s history. Cranston then remarked, “In Florida, they want to do away with critical race theory, and a lot of other states.”
Maher brought in a sensical thought, “Because sometimes it veers off into things that are really not appropriate in schools… introducing ideas about race that are inappropriate for kids that age who can’t understand it” and “telling 5-year-olds that you’re either an oppressor or someone who was oppressed.”
Cranston then began to back away somewhat and agreed that some topics weren’t appropriate for school. He optimistically added, “OK, so common sense would govern that.”
Maher brought him back to reality retorted, “Common sense is what’s lacking in this country.”
Maher has previously said of CRT, “There are children coming home who feel traumatized by this. That’s what parents are objecting to.”
