A tragic shooting at an LGBT Colorado night club has left at least five innocent people dead. U.S. House Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) posted a sympathy tweet, saying that violence must stop:
“The news out of Colorado Springs is absolutely awful. This morning the victims & their families are in my prayers. This lawless violence needs to end and end quickly.”
Department of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg’s husband Chasten responded in what we view as a very distasteful comment by appearing to shift some blame in an unfounded manner to Rep. Boebert:
“You encourage this type of hatred. Get off Twitter and start looking inward.”
In our view, comments like these should be off limits. Regardless of whatever disagreement Democrats have with Republicans on gun laws, it’s clear that no sane person would want to see violence occur, regardless of party.
Supporting self defense is a different conversation altogether than accusing someone of rhetoric as investigators still figure out what even happened at the tragic attack.
