Chip Roy Nominates Byron Donalds for Speaker of the House, ‘This Country Needs a Change’

Chip Roy (R-TX) has nominated Byron Donalds (R-FL) for speaker of the house. After Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) were nominated for speaker of the house, Chip Roy stood up and declared he was nominating Byron Donalds.

Donalds has not received enough votes to overtake McCarthy and so the House will be sent to a fifth vote for speaker sometime in the near future. However, at this time it is unclear if he will receive more than the 20 who previously went against McCarthy in previous votes.

Charlie Kirk tweeted:

“BREAKING: Chip Roy has just nominated Byron Donalds as Speaker of the House.”

The House is holding its second day of votes for speaker of the house, this first vote on Wednesday is the fourth vote that has been held.

“Yesterday my first vote for speaker of the house was for Byron Donalds. Today I’m rising to nominate Byron Donalds for speaker of the House of Representatives,” Roy started.

“Byron is a dear friend a solid conservative, but most importantly a family man who loves dearly his wife Erika, his three children.” He continued, “has a proven track record as a businessman, public service in the Florida legislature and now is a member of the United States Congress.”

Roy added, “Now here we are, and for the first time in history, there have been two Black Americans placed into nomination for Speaker of the House.” This statement gained applause on both sides of the House floor.

Former President Donald Trump is still supporting McCarthy for now, but he has been inconsistent on the full throatiness of his support. Many pro Trump pundits on Twitter are criticizing him for sticking with McCarthy.
