“NewsNation” is set to be the new home for disgraced former CNN news anchor Chris Cuomo. The network is asking its employees to promote the new incoming anchor in their email signatures, by placing a banner for his new show. Some staffers aren’t too excited about the push of Cuomo’s show.
Cuomo was hired to host the network’s prime-time at airing at 9 p.m., with the show starting this fall.
He was let go by CNN after an investigation into his handling of former Democrat Governor of New York Andrew Cuomo’s sexual misconduct allegations. The pair are brothers and CNN allegedly used that to their advantage, and so did Chris.
According to the New York Post, staff at the network aren’t overly thrilled with the way Cuomo is being brought on.
One “source” complained, “This is going to be like SiriusXM… with Chris instead of Howard Stern.” The network is hoping to boost its ratings with Cuomo. News Nation was launched less than two years ago and has only a fraction of the abysmal ratings of CNN. CNN has been around a lot longer and is trying desperately to rejuvenate itself under new management.
Another source for the NYP said, “It’s all about Chris. Can you believe they are asking employees to all plug Chris and not their own shows?” Talking about the request that they all add the banner for Cuomo’s new show to their email signatures.
Ashleigh Banfield who has worked at both CNN and MSNBC is the 10 p.m. anchor at NewsNation and really their first major hire is reportedly not too keen on Cuomo’s arrival.
A source is quoted as saying, “She was meant to be the Rachel Maddow of the network. Now here comes Chris, the big swinging d–k.”
Banfield shoots her show from a studio near her Connecticut home and her production staff works from NewsNation’s headquarters in Chicago. In contrast, Cuomo’s new studio is located in New York City’s Midtown by the United Nations.
Some employees are choosing to boycott the network’s request not to add the banner to their signature. It seems Cuomo is joining a new network the way he left his CNN, by rubbing his co-workers the wrong way.
Jake Tapper and others at CNN were not thrilled about the special treatment they felt Cuomo got while working at CNN. It seems that NewsNation is willing to keep that going to get the “big name”.
