Cruz Forms Opposition Group of Senators Against Electoral College Certification, Unless an Emergency Audit of the Results is Performed

It was reported today that a coalition of GOP senators and senators-elect, led by Sen. Ted Cruz said they will object to the Jan. 6 certification of the presidential election results when a joint session of Congress meets next week unless there is an emergency 10-day audit of the results by an electoral commission.

Members of the coalition that are intending to join the objection are Sens. Ron Johnson (R-WI), James Lankford (R-OK), Steve Daines (R-MT), John Kennedy (R-LA), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), and Mike Braun (R-IN), as well as Sens.-elect Cynthia Lummis (R-WY), Roger Marshall (R-KS), Bill Hagerty (R-TN), and Tommy Tuberville (R-AL).

The group said that the election “featured unprecedented allegations of voter fraud and illegal conduct.”

Their effort is separate from one announced by Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO), who said this week that he would object to what he said was the failure of some states, most notably Pennsylvania, to follow their own election laws.

Earlier today, Republican Texas Congressman Louie Gohmert expressed concern and frustration after a federal district court refused to hear a lawsuit that he filed regarding the Jan. 6 meeting of Congress to certify the results.

Trump-supporter and former professional football player Herschel Walker retweeted Cruz’s tweet announcing the move and said, “A True Leader steps to the front to do the right thing even when many are against him. Thank You Ted Cruz for standing up for America…you are not alone fighting for TRUTH.”

In another tweet, Keith Olbermann, who has a history of going off the rails on TV, called the group “10 Traitors” and claimed that “There are no disputed states. There is only an attempted Trump coup.”

The former MSNBC show host then called “for the arrest” of Cruz, Johnson, and “the other 8 on charges of sedition.”

Cruz retweeted Olbermann’s tweet and said, “This is a so-called ‘journalist.’ Screaming ‘there is no fraud, EVER…and we should ARREST anyone who wants to audit the results.'”

We will do our best to bring updates if more Republicans in either chamber join the ranks of those dissenting.
