CT Teacher Worries About ‘Level of Tokenism’ With Biden’s Education Secretary Pick, ‘Important we Have a Person of Color or Female’ but Track Record and Experience Matter too

Joe Biden, who has reportedly won the 2020 presidential election contest barring any future success from the Trump campaign’s efforts to dispute that with allegations of voter fraud and improprieties, has picked his new secretary of education.

A couple of weeks ago a fake meme was circulating the internet showing a picture of Joe Biden with a transgender person and claiming that was his pick, but it was debunked to be a joke, despite many people falling for it. However, Biden has indeed now made his official selection: Miguel Cardona, Connecticut’s education commissioner.

Although he taught himself for a short period of time, many teachers and advocates wanted someone who had been a teacher for a long period of time, and apparently are angry that Joe Biden picked this particular person for Secretary of Education.

It would be ok if it stopped at that. But apparently, the liberal ‘woke’ crowd is now going against their own rules and saying that just picking someone of color or female isn’t enough to appease their demographic demands. In fact, (although we don’t know her voter registration status for sure), one teacher from Connecticut interviewed is saying that experience and qualifications matter more.

This is the argument people have been making all along on the right-wing. Most Republicans are fine with anybody of any race or sex getting a good job but the experience for the job matters most. Again, we don’t know the party affiliation of this particular teacher interviewed by Newsweek named Nicole Rizzo, but it’s shocking that we would hear this argument fomented by a mainstream media outlet with shocking hypocritical pushback.

In fact, Rizzo actually used the word ‘tokenism’ in her rant about Biden’s pick. We think Newsweek really buried the lede on this one.

Newsweek reported in part:

“I worry that it’s almost a level of tokenism in which Commissioner Cardona does not have a track record of equity in education here in Connecticut,” Rizzo said.

“I think it’s extremely important that we have a person of color or a female or both in this role. However, who that person is needs to have a proven track record and be able to stand on their platform of their experience,” she added.

Who knows if this is an isolated incident of locals who aren’t a fan of Joe Biden’s new selection, or if his attempt at ‘wokeness’ will continue to fail him as the conversation continues across the United States.
