Daily Caller contributor Carrie Sheffield shared her support for the blockage of the D.C. city council’s soft on crime bill.
Sheffield shared a video of her boyfriend’s new card that had all four tires stolen while parked in Washington D.C.’s Union Market. Sheffield added, “My boyfriend’s brand new car got all 4 tires stolen parked in Union Market area. On Wed, Senate likely to block D.C. city council’s soft on crime code rewrite. Couldn’t come at more urgent time! D.C. carjackings up 5th straight year b/c council coddles criminals, obstructs police”

The Senate voted to block the bill with 33 Democrat senators voting with Republicans to do so. The bill had been unanimously passed by the D.C. city council, it was vetoed by Mayor Muriel Bowser (D) in January. On February 12th D.C. city council overrode Bowser’s veto.
The bill has been criticized by many as being soft on crime, as the city’s crime continues to rise. The bill lowered penalties for several violent crimes, including robberies and carjackings.
This is the first time in over thirty years that a D.C.-passed bill has been killed by Congress and The White House. Joe Biden said that he would not veto the resolution if it made it to his desk, giving Democrats the okay to vote yes on the resolution.
