Vanderburgh Sherriff Dave Wedding announced that he would be leaving the Democrat Party for the Republican Party. Thursday alongside Indiana Lieutenant Governor Suzanne Crouch (R), and Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke (R), Wedding made his announcement.
Fox affiliate WFFT 55 in Fort Wayne IN reported, “Mayor Winnecke took to the podium first, and was met with applause, after saying, “we’re here to publicly announce the worst-kept secret in a three-state area – that Dave Wedding is joining the Republican Party.”
Sheriff Wedding spoke to the crowd on his decision to switch from blue to red.
“It’s interesting that we see this glorious flag here…” said Sheriff Wedding. “the Democrats want to burn that thing every day.”
“That’s part of the reason why I said ‘I can’t tolerate that’,” Wedding continued. “Burning our flag, the symbol of our country and our freedom, the greatest country in the world.”
“In the left-wing, you can’t say God,” Wedding continued. “They can’t say God in the Pledge of Allegiance… It’s ridiculous. And I sit and watch this, I think, how can I even say, or be a part of idiots like that.”
“I’m tired of seeing fires set in our streets, I’m tired of people defying God, our church, our police, our government, and everything we stand for,” Sheriff Wedding went on to say. “You hard-working people, that have worked from the time you’re young to now, you’ve become successful individuals, and they want to get on you for being successful. I don’t believe in that.”
“Defunding police seems to be the theme of the left-wing liberals,” Sheriff Wedding continued. “By not supporting the rule of law, we see chaos like in Chicago, Portland, Seattle, – and instead of defunding the police, they should support funding the police during this time of civil unrest.”
“I am glad to be joining the Republican Party, I think we have a lot of work to do – including winning the presidential election – because if not, we’re in trouble,” Wedding went on to say. “Your family’s safety is important to me, and I took the Oath of Office to protect and serve, and will always make that my priority as sheriff.”
Wedding is not the only Sherriff making the move from the Democrat party, Posey County Sheriff Tom Latham, made an announcement back in June of this year that he would be leaving the Democrat party as well citing national platform issues. This has only seemed to spiral downhill for law enforcement officers since then.
President Trump has been shoring up his persona as the ‘Law and Order’ candidate, despite recent reversals by Democrats denouncing violence. Joe Biden has denounced anything not peaceful but blames it on President Trump and the left has hinted that riots may get worse if he is re-elected in some perceive as almost a veiled political threat.
Many in law enforcement are flipping their moderate stances to join Trump as the fear that Joe Biden would at least partially defund or redirect money from local police departments as directed by the radicals on the left. Many of those radicals also chant things like “all cops are bastards” and burn American flags in the streets at recent riots.
Even Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-MN) has actually called to completely ‘dismantle’ the police, a notion Joe has softly pushed back against of course. Despite that, he’ll likely be courting the members of The Squad’ including Omar to fully support him into the throes of the most intense portion of the presidential campaign, for whatever that is worth.
