Despite 2 Million Border Crossers For the First Time Ever, Kamala Harris Insists That it is ‘Secure’

In an interview today with NBC’s “Meet the Press,” the border czar Kamala Harris told host Chuck Todd that despite 2 million border crossers for the first time ever, the border is “secure.”

In a clip that was shared by “Meet the Press” in a tweet, Todd asked Harris, “Would you call the border secure?”

“I think that there’s no question that we have to do what the president and I asked Congress to do, the first request we made, pass a bill to create a pathway to citizenship,” Harris explained.

Harris insisted, “The border is secure, but we also have a broken immigration system in particular over the last four years before we came in and it has to be fixed.”

Todd noted that “Two million people crossed this border for the first time ever, are you confident the border is secure?”

“We have a secure border and that is a priority for any nation including ours and our administration, but there are still a lot of problems that we have to fix, given the deterioration that happened the last four years,” Harris reiterated.

“We also have to put in place a law and plan for a pathway for citizenship for the millions of people who are here and prepared to do what is legally required to gain citizenship.”

“We don’t have that in place because people are playing politics in a state like this and in Congress, by the way, you want to talk about bipartisanship on an issue that at one time was a bipartisan issue in terms of both senators and the president.”

It was reported in mid-August that border arrests are set to top 2021’s record and are on pace for 2 million by the end of September.

The Biden Administration is attempting to downplay the issue ahead of the midterm elections and White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre recently claimed that people do not just “walk over” the border.
