Dr. Birx to Chris Wallace: China’s Lack of Transparency Helped ‘Fan the Virus Across the Globe’

A clip was released of Dr. Birx appearing on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace’s and in the clip, Wallace asks her if the “lack of transparency from China … slow down the public health response in this country?”

Dr. Birx responded that “when you see how many countries are infected, that did help to fan the virus across the globe.”

President Trump criticized China for their lack of coronavirus transparency and he was right. Watch Dr. Birx explain how China’s lack of transparency allowed the coronavirus to “fan… across the globe.”

Chris Wallace: There is a new report out of Australia this weekend that five intelligence agencies including the US have put together a dossier that indicates the Chinese government in the early stages either hid or covered up the fact of the Coronavirus and it’s spread in Japan.

I’m not going to ask you to comment in any way on intelligence, but from a public health standpoint, did the lack of transparency from China in the early days, in January, February, even into March, did that slow down the public health response in this country?

Dr. Birx: Wherever that first jump occurs whether it’s from animal to human or lab to human it doesn’t really matter, whoever, wherever that happens, you have to over-communicate because that’s when you get the first instance of how transmittable this virus is.

What are the people that it’s particularly susceptible to? That didn’t happen and it didn’t happen until late and you know it didn’t happen until mid-January that they even talked about human to human transmission and when you see how many countries are infected, that did help to fan the virus across the globe.
