During Las Vegas Stand-Up Show, Amy Schumer Blames ‘Toxic Masculinity’ For Oscars Assault

Comedian and co-host of the Oscars, Amy Schumer, expounded on her thoughts about the assault that occured during the awards show during a Las Vegas stand-up show yesterday.

Initially after the event, Schumer took to social media to say that she she was still “triggered and traumatised” by the incident and applauded Rock for how he handled the situation.

Schumer told the audience at her show, “I don’t even know what to say about the Oscars, like I really don’t know what to say, I have no jokes about it. All I can say is that I don’t know if you saw this but Will Smith slapped Chris Rock. Did you read that in your news feed?”

As the Hollywood Reporter reported, of her moments before the incident Schumer explained, “I was kind of feeling myself … and then all of a sudden Ali was making his way up.”

“Ali” is likely a reference to Smith having played boxer Muhammad Ali in the 2001 film Ali.

“It was just a f*cking bummer. All I can say is that it was really sad, and I think it says so much about toxic masculinity,” Schumer lamented.

Schumer then pivoted as she said, “It was really upsetting, but I think the best way to comfort ourselves would be for me to say the Oscar jokes that I wasn’t allowed to say on TV.”

After telling the audience jokes she said were cut from her Oscar gig, Schumer noted, “I wasn’t allowed to say any of that but you can just come up and (clock) someone.”

Schumer is a left-wing activist who was arrested at the U.S. Capitol in 2018 while protesting the Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court nomination.
