Elon Musk Makes ‘Rare’ Endorsement for ‘Tough on Crime’ Billionaire Los Angeles Mayoral Candidate Rick Caruso

The CEO of Caruso, an American real estate company, Rick Caruso is running for Los Angeles Mayor. In a rare move by Elon Musk, he made the move to endorse Caruso.

Musk tweeted, “Los Angeles is fortunate to have someone like Rick Caruso running for mayor. He’s awesome.”

Musk added to his original statement, “It is rare for me to endorse political candidates. My political leanings are moderate, so neither fully Republican nor Democrat, which I am confident is the case for most Americans. Executive competence is super underrated in politics – we should care about that a lot more!”

Caruso is a former Republican who moved to Independent and just this year has changed his party affiliation to Democrat. He started the real estate development company, Caruso, in 1987. He is a billionaire and serves on the board of trustees at the University of Southern Califonia. He was previously President of the Los Angeles Police Commission.

Musk replied to Bob is Here to Explain, which tweeted, “I am endorsing a political candidate because I think they are competent.” Confirming this is correct Musk stated, “Yes, I am endorsing a political candidate because he is competent!”

The primary is set for June 7th, which is less than a week away. Caruso’s biggest competition is U.S. House, Representative Karen Bass (D). Bass is running ads comparing Caruso to former President Trump saying,  “Just like Trump, he’s spending millions to buy his way into office.”

Los Angeles has been making the news for their rampant homeless problem and rising crime.

To top it off LA District Attorney, George Gascon has made it a point of reducing sentences and declined to prosecute many crimes. A California appeals court just ruled that Thursday that, “The district attorney overstates his authority. He is an elected official who must comply with the law, not a sovereign with absolute, unreviewable discretion.” Gascon’s approach to prosecution is very much under fire, being called out for ignoring California Law.

Caruso has pledged to hire more police officers and to arrest the homeless who refuse to move into shelters. “You don’t get a choice to stay on the street any more. The minute we have a bed for you, you move into the bed, or otherwise, there’s a consequence,” he told Fox News in an interview.

With all of this, Los Angeles may be ready for a change in the direction it has been headed. Polling suggests that it will be close between Caruso and Bass, the poor direction the city has taken may just push voters to look at a candidate who, while registered as a Democrat, may not be the progressive Californians normally adopt.

Musk highlights with his endorsement, that Caruso is a “competent executive” something he feels is “super underrated in politics”.
