Eric Swalwell Admits that Keeping Ronna McDaniel in Charge of RNC is ‘Good News for Democrats’

With the news that Ronna McDaniel is “set to glide” into her fourth term as chair of the Republican National Committee in January, Congressman Eric Swalwell (D-CA) shared the news proclaiming, “Good News for Democrats …”

While there have been numerous calls for change in the leadership of the Republican party, it seems that establishment Republicans want to keep the same lineup in charge. Congressman Matt Gaetz (R-FL) called the leader of the House, Senate, and RNC “McFailure” in a tweet. This came as the GOP underperformed poll in the midterms.

McDaniel failed to get enough Republicans to get out and vote to get a supermajority in the House and the Senate is now in the hands of the Democrats.

There were calls for Congressman Lee Zeldin (R-NY) to challenge McDaniel for RNC Chair. He announced earlier this month that he would decline to challenge her but also added that we need “fresh blood”.

McDaniel does face two challengers to her position. Harmeet Dhillon threw her hat in the ring challenging McDaniel. Mike Lindell, My Pillow CEO also announced he was running as well.

Even with their announcements and calls from some within the party for a new Chair, more than 100 of the RNC’s 168 members signed a letter expressing their support for McDaniel.

Axios was told by a spokesperson from McDaniels that she still has 85 votes needed to keep her chairmanship.

Axios pointed out that since her election to RNC Chair in 2017, “the party has suffered through a Democratic landslide in 2018, former President Trump’s defeat and a Democratic Senate takeover in 2020, and a “red wave” that failed to materialize in 2022.”

The House and Senate both kept McCarthy and McConnell as leaders in the chambers of Congress. It seems even with all the failures the leadership will be staying the same.

Swalwell is just saying the obvious about the lack of change within the GOP is good for Democrats.
