Actor and producer Alec Baldwin is among those being sued by the family of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, who was shot and killed on the set of the movie “Rust.”
Hutchins’ husband, Matthew Hutchins, and son, Andros, are suing Baldwin and others associated with the production of the western flick, of which the production is now indefinitely suspended.
Attorney Brian Panish held a press conference in Los Angeles today to announce the lawsuit against Baldwin and “others who are responsible for the safety on set, and whose reckless behavior and cost-cutting led to the senseless, tragic death of Halyna Hutchins.”
Panish declared that his firm has conducted an independent investigation that he said uncovered “numerous violations of industry standards” by Baldwin and the other defendants named in the complaint.
Among those with violations were “Rust” armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, assistant director David Halls and several production companies attached to the project.
Attorneys also created a video that showed an animated recreation of the shooting, culminating with a computer-generated avatar representing Baldwin accepting a revolver from Halls, pointing it in Hutchins’ direction, and pulling the trigger.
The animation shows that the bullet in the chamber was live, not a “dummy” with a hole drilled into it, and the video shows the round striking Hutchins, who clutches her chest and collapses.
The attorneys also said in the video that was presented that Baldwin had turned down training for the kind of gun draw he was doing when he shot Hutchins.
Baldwin has apparently moved on to the filming of a new movie in England and recently, he shared an anti-Trump political cartoon that appeared in the New Yorker on Instagram.
