Fearful of Catching Covid-19 from Son, Mother Allegedly Stuffs him into Trunk of Car on Way to Testing Site, Warrant Issued for Her Arrest

41-year-old, Cypress Falls high school English teacher, Sarah Beam has been charged after her 13-year-old son was found in the trunk of her car at Cy-Fair ISD drive-thru Covid-19 testing site. Beam has been charged with felony child endangerment. A warrant has been issued for her arrest.

On January 3rd Beam pulled into the testing location in northwest Harrison County. According to court documents, a witness heard noises from the trunk. Beam unlatched the trunk and the boy was found inside lying down.

The witness told Beam she couldn’t receive a Covid-19 test until the child was removed from the trunk and placed in the back seat of the car. The witness then reported the incident to the police.

Beam told authorities that her son and previously tested positive for Covid-19, and she was taking him for additional testing. She had placed him in the trunk of the car in order to protect herself from being exposed.

Cy-Fair ISD released a statement on the incident, “CFPD was alerted that a child was in the trunk of a car at a drive-thru COVID-19 testing site earlier this week. Law enforcement conducted a full investigation, resulting in a warrant for arrest. Thankfully, the child was not harmed.

Beam is currently on administrative leave from her job at Cypress Falls high school, where she has been employed since 2011.

Local news stations NBC Channel 2 Houston and ABC Channel 13 Houston both released pieces on the incident.

It is unclear if police are letting Beam turn herself in or if they are unable to find her at this time.
