Alaska Senator and anti-Trump RINO Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) said Friday that she didn’t vote for President Trump in the 2020 Presidential election and cites that it didn’t matter who she voted for saying, “people have asked and it’s like, you know what, it’s not really relevant who I voted for,”.
The Senator, who has had a long anti-Trump bias went after the Party for becoming more and more like the president’s party and not the old GOP of the Bush’s saying, “If the Republican Party continues to be the party of Trump, I’m not quite sure where I fit.” She also noted she is sometimes discouraged with Republican Party and the way she sees things going within the Party.
Murkowski was one of the few GOP senators who considered voting to convict President Trump in the impeachment last year but ultimately voted to acquit. Nevertheless, she may indeed vote to convict the former president once the Senate votes on the second impeachment. This and along with her publicly saying she didn’t vote for President Trump could cause her to have a Trump-backed primary challenge as she is up for re-election in 2022.
Murkowski explained what her vision of the Republican Party is saying, “I would like us to be that party that is inclusive of young people and minorities and LGBTQ and all people everywhere regardless of demographic or background,”. She followed that by saying she would like the GOP to become the big tent party.
There is a growing power struggle among the GOP of Trumpism and Neoconservatism as the president has fundamentally shifted the ideology of the GOP and the voting block. The Reagan Republicans seem to be wanting to get Trump out and gain control of the GOP once again but they may be underestimating the power and support President Trump has within the GOP.
Following Republican Congresswoman Liz Cheney (R-WY) voting to impeach President Trump, she was then censured by her own Party. It is also worthy to note Sarah Palin, who was the former Governor of Alaska, may attempt to primary Murkowski in 2022. You can see what happens to those disloyal to former President Trump.
