Angie Ugarte, the owner of DeBary Diner in DeBary Florida, put up a sign in the diner’s front window, telling Biden supporters they can take their business elsewhere, after the president’s disastrous pull out of Afghanistan.
The diner’s decore celebrates American heroes who served in the military with pictures of many who have served in the armed forces, emblems from the different branches, and other patriotic items.
The sign in the window of the diner reads, “If you voted for and continue to support and stand behind the worthless, inept and corrupt administration currently inhabiting the White House that is complicit in the death of our servicemen and women in Afghanistan, please take your business elsewhere”. Ugarte put up the sign, in response to the death of 13 U.S. service members at the Kabul airport suicide bombing.
The response from much of the public has been that of overwhelming support. On Wednesday, the diner’s Facebook page displayed a message which declared they had ‘literally run out of food,’ thanking the community for their appreciation and understanding.
Friday, the diner put out another message the response was appreciated and humbling to the owner.
“The last few days have been an incredible whirlwind but today really brought it home for me. I have experienced such an indescribable outpouring of love and support that I am absolutely speechless. Most of all, I am so humbled and so touched by the generous support from all over the world for our veteran community. I want to thank all of you and assure you that your efforts for coming from near and far, your calls, cards, gifts, tokens of affection are so incredibly appreciated and cherished. Thank you.”
The diner made national news, “Fox Outnumbered” discussed it on Wednesday, the same day that they ran out of food. The video below shows the sign and the inside of the diner.
West Volusia Beacon reported, “The DeBary Diner was closed Sept. 2 because the shop had run out of food the day before and was awaiting a delivery. Word of Ugarte and her restaurant spread like wildfire, as news websites and television networks picked up her story, drawing attention to a possible gathering spot for those with conservative and pro-military sentiments...
Ugarte said she was upset and angry about the Aug. 26 suicide bombing that claimed the lives of 13 American military personnel at the Kabul airport, and she blames Biden for not preventing the American deaths.
“I don’t want to make my living off people who have blood on their hands,” Ugarte said when she arrived late Thursday morning. “If you sincerely support Biden, open your eyes and hold your president accountable.”
Ugarte, who said she put up the sign the day after the bombing, said she is not acting from partisanship.”
The diner was set to reopen Friday. Many Americans feel that Biden has skirted his responsibilities in the horrible exit from Afghanistan. Biden says the buck stops with him but points fingers at everything else for how the withdrawal went. Many Americans were left behind after the last American military plane left the Kabul Airport.
Many have called for Biden to resign and some Republicans are calling for an impeachment of Joe Biden. America is out of Afghanistan but no one knows for sure what will come of the area or the people left behind.
