Former GOP U.S. House Rep Steve King Calls Out Kevin McCarthy For Claiming to be Against Cancel Culture

When asked about U.S. House Rep Liz Cheney (R-WY) suggesting that former President Trump shouldn’t have a role in the party, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) told Fox News yesterday that he doesn’t “believe in cancel culture.”

Those words came as a shock to former U.S. House Rep Steve King (R-IA), who was first stripped of his committees and then primaried by now U.S. House Rep Randy Feenstra (R-IA) last year.

King asked in a tweet, “Does Kevin McCarthy actually believe what he is saying?”

@Liz_Cheney & @GOPLeader teamed up on a strategic plan to “cancel” me. No Democrat is more shameless,” King added.

McCarthy refused to endorse King last year ahead of the primary or guarantee that he would be able to get his committee assignments back if re-elected.

“I not taken a position on his race, no,” McCarthy said at the time and when asked why not, McCarthy said he believed that “the people have the determination to decide who they vote for.”

Feenstra was among a minority of Republican House members who voted against the two objections to the certification of the electoral college votes, despite receiving former President Trump’s support in the general election.

In a January 6 statement, Feenstra said, ““When I was sworn into office on Sunday, with my hand on our family’s Bible, I took an oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States. Today, that is what I’ll do. The Twelfth Amendment to the Constitution states, ‘The person having the greatest Number of [Electoral College] votes for President, shall be the President, if such number be a majority of the whole number of Electors appointed.’ To date, no state has sent a new slate of electors — even though they have the constitutional power to do so. Therefore, the results of the Electoral College will stand.”
