Former Presidential Speechwriter Suggests GOP Might Impeach Obama Instead of Biden with Durham Findings

In a series of tweets today, former presidential speechwriter David Frum, who currently writes for The Atlantic, took a different approach to a potential impeachment if Republicans win back the House in 2022.

Frum began by quote tweeting a New York Times article which claimed that “A band of anti-Trump Republicans led by Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky is quietly maneuvering to bring allies to Washington and thwart Donald Trump’s bid to retain his hold on the GOP. The plan is so far yielding mixed results.”

In the quote tweet, Frum said that he believes, “This is all going to become very relevant if a McCarthy-led House heeds Trump and attempts a revenge impeachment in 2023.”

“It’s a very good bet than an impeachment is coming if GOP wins the House. But whom? In 2021, some legal experts (argued) that a former president can be impeached,” Frum continued.

Frum then suggested, “At the time, most GOPers rejected this theory. If they win the House, they may rediscover it and go after former President Obama on some theory based on some of the allegations rolled out by John Durham.”

“An Obama impeachment would be much more exciting to GOP small-donor base – and much more lucrative to the large industry that fundraises from that base,” Frum explained.

Sharing a screenshot of a Donald Trump Jr. tweet, Frum concluded, “From then See what I mean? Impeaching “Sleepy Joe” in 2023 wouldn’t fire up the pro-Trump neurotransmitters – or open pro-Trump wallets – in the way that a retrospective attack on Obama would”

Trump Jr. tweeted out a Fox News article this morning about Durham’s recent action and asked, “Where’s the ‘Worse Than Watergate’ crew. Given that spying continued into DJT’s presidency, it is now literally Worse Than Watergate?”

“Where’s Bob Woodward? Since that’s his only shtick for 50 years you’d think they’d wheel him out from whatever rock he’s hiding under… right?” Trump Jr. wondered.
