The state attorney for Baltimore city is in hot water tonight. You may have heard of Marilyn Mosby. She is the woman who prosecuted six police officers in the Freddie Gray case. Mosby prosecuted six police officers in the 2015 death of Freddie Gray. Ultimately the officers were acquitted though.
Many thought Mosby was using a racial bias in that case. Now, Mosby is being charged for perjury and a false statement on a mortgage application. A federal grand jury just indicted her today. There are four counts on the indictment.
Mosby claimed hardships during Covid-19 to use a plan to withdraw money from the city’s deferred compensation plan. She took out $40,000 and $50,000 on two separate occasions. Her normal salary was never reduced however, show documents.
She was paid $247,955.58 in 2020 and $238,772.04 in 2019 which shows an increase in salary year over year. From WBALTV:
The indictment alleges Mosby falsely certified that she met at least one of the qualifications for a distribution as defined under the CARES Act, specifically, that she experienced adverse financial consequences stemming from the coronavirus as a result of “being quarantined, furloughed or laid off” or “having reduced work hours” or “being unable to work due to lack of child care or “the closing or reduction of hours of a business I own or operate.”
In signing the forms, Mosby “affirm(ed) under penalties for perjury the statements and acknowledgments made in this request.”
The indictment also alleges Mosby made false statements on applications for a loan to buy a $490,500 home in Kissimmee, Florida, and for a $428,400 mortgage to purchase a condominium in Long Boat Key, Florida, by not disclosing her federal tax liabilities.
She had unpaid taxes from several years, and in March 2020, the Internal Revenue Service placed a lien against her property.
The indictment alleges that by falsely executing a “second home rider,” Mosby could obtain a lower interest rate on the mortgage for the Kissimmee property than she would have received without it.
Previously, Mosby reportedly tossed over 600 criminal charges, citing Covid-19, as we reported in 2020 in part:
Baltimore, Maryland, a city that has been on the decline with population, while crime and poverty runs rampant in the hands of Democrat rule, is facing another epidemic, lawlessness. This comes as State Attorney Marilyn Mosby, famous for (apparently) botching the Freddie Gray prosecutions resulting in officer charges falling through, now wants to throw nearly 600 warrants out the window. That’s not to say the officers were guilty or not guilty, simply that the city failed to achieve their goal of ‘accountability’ in that instance.
She claims this is because of Coronavirus concerns in the jails, but one could speculate that there is political pressure here in the midst of nationwide riots and looting.
Full story:
Baltimore, Chicago, and other Democrat-run cities are notorious for being corruption hotbeds. We will see what happens next.
It is being reported that the Republican Governor of Maryland, Larry Hogan, may run for U.S. Senate next. Perhaps if he does, he can run on cleaning up the corruption that he failed to do as governor.
Mosby may run for office again. This will probably not help her case. Stay tuned for more updates.
