Geraldo Rivera Comes to Trump’s Defense After Criticism of ‘Wish Her Well’ Maxwell Comments

When President Trump resumed the Coronavirus Press Briefings yesterday, one White House correspondent took time away from addressing the virus to ask him about the Ghislaine Maxwell case.

The president said that he wasn’t too aware of the case but that he had met her a few times and “I wish her well.”

As the Daily Beast put it, “Trump’s warm words for the accused Epstein madam quickly sparked a frenzy on social media and even prompted some Republicans to express discomfort over the remarks.”

We pointed out previously that her life could be in danger, which she believes to be the case, over what she may know. Geraldo Rivera came to the president’s defense and called out the “media mob.”

When asked @realDonaldTrump said he wished #GhislaineMaxwellArrested well. With media mob eager to see her lynched it was brave to weigh in. Fact: cases vs her are for crimes allegedly committed more than 25 years ago. She deserved bail & got solitary confinement: woke politics.

After facing a mob of his own, Rivera doubled down with a follow-up tweet.

Wake up woke folk. Bail is not a finding of guilt or innocence. The only question for judge is whether accused will show up for trial, at which guilt or innocence is adjudged. #GhislaineMaxwell Has the right to a trial. Surely even digital stalker @RedHourBen understands that.

From the Daily Beast:

Rivera’s defense of Maxwell comes days after he lambasted the judge assigned to the Epstein associate’s case. Shortly after U.S. District Judge Alison Nathan denied Maxwell bail and set her trial for next July, Rivera accusing Nathan of “chickening out” and caving to the “mob.”

“They are punishing her before conviction,” he exclaimed on July 14. “She has never been held liable in a civil suit, never been convicted of a crime. She is not Jeffrey Epstein.”

He went on to claim that Nathan caved to political and social pressure while insisting that the charges against Maxwell are “wobbly.”
