GOP AZ State Sen.-elect Wendy Rogers Triggers Local Reporter Into Making a ‘Probably Dumb’ Tweet With Lee Statue Defense

We reported earlier that last night, a statue of former Confederate General Robert E. Lee was taken down inside the US capitol.

Arizona State Senator-elect Wendy Rogers (R) issued a series of tweets about her feelings on the General and what the removal might lead to.

“Robert E Lee was a great patriot and a great leader. They are not just tearing him down. They are coming after all of us. Get involved now. You could be next,” Rogers said in her first tweet, which drew the attention of many who came to tell her how much of a “traitor” he was.

Later, Rogers tweeted out again and said that “Robert E Lee loved our country more than Antifa, Soros, China, @aoc, @IlhanMN, and @RashidaTlaib.”

“Robert E Lee served his country and his state which is more than most of these socialist imposters have done,” Rogers added in a separate tweet.

AZ Capitol Times reporter Julia Shumway took a screenshot of Roger’s tweets and shared them in a tweet of her own and said, “Arizona Sen.-elect @WendyRogersAZ is now doubling down on praising Robert E. Lee, the Confederate general who LITERALLY FOUGHT A WAR TO OVERTHROW THE UNITED STATES.”

Rogers retweeted Shumway and responded back, “Very ignorant tweet. He fought a war to defend the Commonwealth of Virginia which is where his family lived. Upon surrendering, he did more than anyone to heal the divide between the North and the South. Very ignorant liberals simply create straw men and red herrings.”

After Rogers responded, Shumway apparently had second thoughts about her tweet and retweeted it and said, “Tweeting about this was probably dumb, given that Rogers almost certainly set out to trigger the “libs” and the ‘fake news.’ I can’t figure out whether it’s better to flag or ignore crazy s—- broadcast by people who are supposed to represent constituencies.”

Rogers then retweeted that tweet and said, “This is actually a somewhat accurate tweet.”

Shumway, however, has not taken down either tweet. In between the tweets, Rogers tweeted out further defense of her position and said that “These lawless thugs wanting to tear down Robert E Lee also wanted to tear down Lincoln’s statue in DC that was paid for by freed slaves. They just want to destroy all American history. They vandalized the the memorial to the 54th Mass in Boston. This is what ISIS does.”

Rogers recently tweeted that “It is un-American to tear down, erase, and burn history. Only cowards and tyrants do that” and also “Dear liberals. Thank you for the 600 more followers I got today. #RobertELee
