U.S. House Rep Victoria Spartz (R-IN) has become the latest Republican House member to not vote for U.S. House Rep Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) to become the next House Speaker.
Spartz voted “present” rather than vote for someone else, but it could be a sign that another GOP member is fed up with the process.
McCarthy has been reportedly asking some GOP members who oppose him to vote “present” rather than either endorsing him outright or backing someone else.
If a certain number of those GOP members were to vote “present” rather than for someone else, that could secure his victory as well.
Twenty GOP members voted against McCarthy in the fourth round, the same number as the third round and one more than the first and second rounds.
This time, however, the GOP members who voted against McCarthy cast their vote for U.S. House Rep Byron Donalds (R-FL).
Round Four, and he loses again. Voting “present” was my Congresswoman, @Victoria_Spartz, who voted for McCarthy in the first three ballots. Meanwhile, the Dems are munching on popcorn. #Speakerofthehouse #SpeakerVote pic.twitter.com/aCjNK8OeCN

As we previously reported, U.S. House Rep Chip Roy (R-TX) has nominated Donalds for speaker of the house in the fourth round.
After McCarthy (R-CA) and Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) were nominated for speaker of the house, Chip Roy stood up and declared he was nominating Byron Donalds.
Jeffries was nominated for the fourth time and Democrats remained united behind him as he received all of their votes.
