Greene Takes Aim At New House Rules on Gender While Declaring She Voted Against Pelosi as Speaker

It was recently reported that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Rules Committee Chairman James P. McGovern (D-MA) announced new rules for the 117th Congress, which will be introduced and voted on after the new Congress convenes.

The rules include what they claim to be “sweeping ethics reforms, increases accountability for the American people, and makes this House of Representatives the most inclusive in history” and would include eliminating the words “father, mother, son, and daughter” from federal code.

Newly-elected Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) tweeted a video of her vote being cast on the floor and said, “Just proudly voted to REMOVE Nancy Pelosi from the Speaker’s chair. A man, a father, and a son, Kevin McCarthy, should have the gavel!”

It was just announced, however, that Pelosi was able to secure enough votes to become the Speaker of the House for the next two years, after some speculation that it would be close.

Dave Wasserman tweeted, “Breaking: Nancy Pelosi wins vote for speaker, w/ AOC among final Dems putting her over the top.”

Five Democrats voted against Pelosi including Mikie Sherrill (NJ), Abigail Spanberger (VA), and Elissa Slotkin (MI) who each voted “present.”

House Rep. Jared Golden, (D-MI), was the first to defect from his party, voting instead for Democratic Senator Tammy Duckworth (IL) and House Rep. Conor Lamb (PA) voted for House Democratic Caucus Chairman Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (NY).
