Hundreds of Bikers, Community Members Turn Out For Cannon Hinnant Memorial Ride and Benefit in NC

Hundreds of bikers and community members Saturday took part in a memorial motorcycle ride in North Carolina to honor the life of 5-year-old Cannon Hinnant.

Bikers from as far away as Tennessee joined in on the memorial ride and they gathered around the Hinnant family to pray and demand justice for Cannon.

The group also held an all-day softball event in the child’s name and the family says every dollar will go towards justice for Cannon. Some participants at the event wore shirts that read, “I can’t ride | All Lives Matter” as Cannon was killed by a black man while riding his bicycle.

25 Year Old Darrius Sessoms has been arrested, charged with murder, and is is being held at the Wilson County Detention Center. Bonnie Waddell, the mother of Cannon, said in a previous interview that she will ask the district attorney to seek the death penalty in the case.

Waddell said at the memorial yesterday, “He was the only mama’s boy I ever had and took that away from me. I wish it would have been me instead. I don’t understand why my child, or why he would do this to anybody for that matter, it’s a why that will never get answered.”

From CBS 17:

“Cannon would be overjoyed because Cannon loved everybody,” said Gwen Hinnant, Cannon’s grandmother. “So the fact that everybody’s coming together to honor him is beyond amazing.”

“It’s gonna keep Cannon’s name going and that’s what this is about,” one biker said of the tribute.

“We feel blessed to be able to come down and support the family in the midst of this tragedy,” said Michael Trollinger, of Fellowship Riders of Alamance County. “And to be able to pray for justice for this family and even for the offender, that the good Lord’s light will shine in his heart.”

“Yes, we’re gonna fight for justice for Cannon, but it goes beyond that because there are many children that are taken senselessly,” his grandmother said. “So justice is going to start with Cannon for us, but it’s gonna go beyond that.”

The family is planning another memorial for Cannon at the Wilson County Fairgrounds on Sept. 26.
