Illinois Senate Majority leader, Kimberly Lightford and her husband were carjacked on Tuesday night in Broadview IL, twelve miles west of downtown Chicago, neither of the were injured. Three masked suspects in a Durango SUV hijacked Lightford’s black Mercedes-Benz according to police chief Thomas Mills.
In a statement released by Lightford she said, “First and foremost, I am thankful that my husband and I are alive and physically unharmed. I am trying to process the trauma of what happened. I want to thank everyone who has offered their love and support. I want to especially thank Mayor Katrina Thompson and the Broadview Police Department for their quick and thorough response.”
Lightford touts working with former President Barack Obama when he was a state senator in Illinois to pass racial profiling reform. She helped to pass no cash bail in a criminal omnibus bill passed in January of 2021 the bill came as a response to the death of George Floyd in May of 2020, as well as being a major sponsor of police reform.
According to Axios violent crimes in cook county are up however, arrests for the violent crimes are down, this information was put out on December 21, the same day Lightford was carjacked.
US Navy Officer Lt Steve Rogers highlights Lighford’s efforts in a tweet, “Illinois Dem state Senate majority leader was carjacked Tue night in a Chicago suburb. Sen. Kimberly Lightford played a pivotal role in passing a bill ending cash bail, among other things. Looks like defunding police, etc doesn’t work well.Dems must be proud! -Lt”

Mike Cernovich responded to the news with a screen shot of an article about the elimination of cash bail in Illinois and a quote from the article, “State Sen. Kimberly Lightford (D-4th District) voted along with the majority (32-23) to pass the Pretrial Fairness Act … Passage of the Pretrial Fairness Act makes Illinois the first state in the nation to completely abolish cash bail.”

We reported earlier on the carjacking of Congress woman Mary Gay Scanlon (D-PA), who also supported defund the police efforts and co-sponsored a bill for police reform was carjacked in the same 24 hours as Lighford.
Crime in democrat ran cities only seems to be rising and no one holding the reigns seems to be taking it seriously, placing blame on COVID or on those who are taken advantage of. Only time will tell if leadership will change and the changes to stop the out-of-control crime take place.
