Iowa State Republicans Get Canceled By Iowa Federation of College Republicans for Pro-2A Tweet

The College Republicans at Iowa State consider themselves to be an “America First” chapter and unlike many other college Republican groups, they vocally have supported President Trump and are not afraid to speak up about their place on campus.

As news broke around 11:30 a.m. Saturday that Biden was called to be the president-elect, the Iowa State College Republicans’ Twitter account tweeted, “Everyone, you must arm up, expect these people to attempt to destroy your life, the elites want revenge on us.”

The account was later restricted and they were forced to remove the tweet after an outcry. Ryan Hurley, the president of the group, said the tweet was meant to support everyone’s Second Amendment rights.

According to the Ames Tribune, Hurley wrote in an email, “Our thought in writing the tweet was to support everyone in their right to bear arms. People have sickly twisted it. Violence is not our intent.”

The Iowa Federation of College Republicans (IFCR), however, didn’t see it that way and held a meeting yesterday where they “moved to defederate” the group according to a statement they released.

The College Republicans at Iowa State Twitter account responded and said, “The cancel culture ‘Republicans’ strike again. Very low energy, very cringe!”

Iowa State University had initially pledged to punish the students, but has since backed down.

According to “FIRE”, “Iowa State responded to our concerns by affirming that it only seeks to punish possession and use of prohibited weapons on campus — not expression — and that the College Republicans will not face disciplinary action for their tweet.”

The University of Iowa College Republicans announced that they stand behind the statement made by the IFCR and “Chief America 1st Trumpster” called them out for meeting with Nikki Haley, who was criticized recently by Donald Trump Jr. for not supporting President Trump, last month.
