Jim Jordan Sends Letter to IG Horowitz Demanding Docs and Info on His Assistance With the Seizure of Rep Scott Perry’s Phone

U.S. Congressman Jim Jordan (R-OH) announced today that he has sent a letter to the Inspector General Michael Horowitz over the seizure of GOP U.S. Congressman Scott Perry’s phone.

“BREAKING: @Jim_Jordan just sent a letter to Department of Justice Inspector General Michael Horowitz requesting details on the OIG’s unusual decision to assist the FBI with the unprecedented seizure of U.S. Representative Scott Perry’s personal cell phone.”

The letter gives Horowitz a deadline of September 12 at 5 p.m. to respond to the request, or sooner.

It was reported last week that Perry is suing to block the Justice Department from reviewing the contents of his cell phone.

In his recent filing, Perry indicated that DOJ has not yet accessed materials on his phone and is in the process of obtaining a second search warrant that would guide its review, including a process to screen out potentially privileged materials.

According to POLITICO, Perry contends that the data on his phone includes material protected by attorney-client privilege, marital privilege and the constitutional provision that limits most legal action against members of Congress related to their official duties.

Jordan appeared on Fox News to announce as well where he said, ”The Inspector General is supposed to provide independent oversight of the DOJ.”

“How can you do that if you are participating in an investigation?” Jordan wondered.

The seizure of Perry’s cell phone came a day after federal agents executed a search at Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence.
