Jonathan Turley Calls Pelosi “Partisan Troll”, Demands an Apology or Resignation as Speaker

Last night, President Trump delivered his Third State of the Union address to the nation in the House on Capitol Hill. The tension in the room was high through the whole address. Trump appears to have missed or slighted the Speaker of the House when she extended her hand before he started the address. Pelosi introduced President Trump in an unusual fashion by just saying “the President of the United States”. The usual introduction is ‘it is my privilege and honor to present to you the President of the United States.’ However, the pair have not spoken for months according to the speaker.

President Trump’s State of the Union was shorter than usual. Trump showcased families his policies have affected including Iain Lanphier, a 13-year-old who hopes to be a member of the Space Force. Lanphier’s Grandfather who was a member of the Tuskegee Airmen was in attendance as well. At 100 years old Charles McGee stood for the applause. President Trump announced he promoted McGee to Brigadier General. There were many moments like this last night in the State of the Union.

At the end of the address, everyone stood up and many clapped while Pelosi held up the speech that was given to her. Pelosi then ripped up her copy of the address. She responded when asked about it why she ripped it up she said: “Because it was a manifest of mistruths”.

Johnathan Turley, a law professor at George Washington University Law School, who has testified on the hill in different hearings, had much to say about on Twitter about what Pelosi did. In his first tweet about Pelosi Turley says “Pelosi Shreds Decades Of Tradition In Demonstrating Against Trump” and a link to an article he wrote. see tweet below:

Turley’s article concludes with, “For those of us who truly love the House as an institution, it was one of the lowest moments to unfold on the floor. That is why I argue in the Hill that, if Pelosi does not apologize and agree to honor the principle of neutrality and civility at the State of the Union, she should resign as speaker.”

He continues on Twitter with his criticism of the Speaker’s actions. “She is not some Sinead O’Connor ripping up a photograph of the pope on “Saturday Night Live” while shouting “Fight the real enemy.” Pelosi, like her predecessors, is supposed to remain stone-faced even when presidents have left them personally enraged.”

Turley also had some criticism for the president as well, in his final tweet about the State of the Union he said, “I also strongly disliked elements of his address which bordered on Oprah-like, check-under-your-seat moments. However, if the president made the State of the Union look like “Oprah,” Pelosi made it look like “The Jerry Springer Show.” “
