Jonathan Turley Throws a Curveball at Lori Lightfoot’s Campaign, Says Chicagoans Refer to Stolen Goods as Shrinkage to be PC, Police Force Down 20%

Chicago’s Mayoral Election is set to take place on February 28th, with early voting already open. The latest polling shows Democrat Mayor Lori Lightfoot currently polling in third, behind Paul Vallas and Jesus “Chuy” Garcia.

Political commentator Jonathan Turley shared an article that accuses Lightfoot of gaslighting Chicagoans over crime after she commented “Everyone in our city deserves to be safe because they are safe.”

Her comments run contrary to the facts, as crime, and murders are up in Chicago, and while Lightfoot has been in charge the police force has decreased by nearly 20%.

Turley tweeted, “The ranks of Chicago police are down roughly 20 percent under Mayor Lightfoot who continues to dismiss the rising public safety dangers in my hometown.”

He also remarked on some things he noticed while in the windy city during Christmas.

“… Notably, on our trip back home at Christmas, I repeatedly remarked to my family that I had never seen so few police around. We literally only spotted a couple police cars during our entire stay in Chicago…”

“…A Home Depot employee told me that they were told to refer to stolen goods as “shrinkage” rather than “shoplifting” for political reasons. He said that theft is rampant and police are scarce. It appears shrinkage is also the operative term for the police ranks under Lightfoot.”

Lightfoot’s time as mayor may soon be over, although it could head into a runoff if one candidate doesn’t secure enough votes as it currently is a tight race. The runoff would take place in April if that were the case.
