A video tweeted out by the digital strategist to Vice President Kamala Harris has gone viral, with many scratching their heads as to why Harris would wear a mask, only to take it off after approaching a large group of people outside for a photo op.
It appears that the large group of people were there for a celebration of the religious festival of lights as the digital strategist, Brenna Parker, said in the tweet, “Happy Diwali!”
TPUSA’s Benny Johnson shared the clip from Parker in a tweet and asked, “Can someone explain the science behind wearing a mask only to remove it while approaching a crowd of people?”

Some respondents told Johnson that they believed she had the mask on because she was in a vehicle prior to walking up to the group, although if she was, it was not visible in the clip.
Others suggested that because they all were potentially vaccinated, there was no harm in it.
In a tweet, Harris shared a video message, maskless, to those celebrating the holiday “in the middle of a pandemic.”
“Happy Diwali to everyone celebrating the Festival of Lights here in the United States and around the world,” Harris said in the tweet.
Harris also proclaimed that the Second Gentleman “and I extend our warmest wishes for a holiday filled with light, love, and prosperity.”

President Joe Biden, joined by First Lady Jill Biden, lit a Diya at White House to celebrate the holiday.
Biden said in a tweet, “May the light of Diwali remind us that from darkness there is knowledge, wisdom, and truth. From division, unity. From despair, hope.”
“To Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, and Buddhists celebrating in America and around the world — from the People’s House to yours, happy Diwali,” Biden added.
