Kevin McCarthy has been Ousted from U.S. House Speakership After Showdown with Matt Gaetz

Kevin McCarthy has been removed from his leadership position as Speaker of the House.

The vote came in at 216 to 210 in favor of removing him from his position.

This is a breaking story and will be updated with more details shortly.

In somewhat of a surprise, U.S. House Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) voted for ousting McCarthy.

“JUST IN: Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) voted ‘yea’ to oust McCarthy, making seven Republicans against him.”

U.S. House Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) voted against ousting McCarthy. Her response garnered laughs as she answered when called on, “No for now”.

“Rep. Lauren Boebert votes “no—for now” on the Motion to Vacate against Speaker McCarthy”

In an interview shortly after the vote, U.S. House Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) told reporters “I have no desire to be speaker of the house”. Gaetz was the member of the House that brought for the resolution to remove McCarthy from his position.

Gaetz added: “We gotta move to the next step. We are not at the end of this process. At most we are approaching halftime. We’ve gotta be able to assemble a running coalition. We have to build from a place of trust. The reason Kevin McCarthy went down today, is because nobody trusts Kevin McCarthy. Kevin McCarthy has made multiple contradictory promises and when they all came due he lost votes of people who maybe don’t even ideologically agree with me on everything. Take for example my colleague from South Carolina Miss Mace…”

Currently, it remains unclear who the next Speaker of the House will be. It must be noted that the position could be filled by someone outside of Congress.

  1. Think this is going to back fire on Republicans!
I agree that the deficit has to be a priority but not the priority!
Sadly even when Republicans had the chance under Trump and 2 yrs after, they did little to nothing to change the deficit, modify or change the huge problem of immigration, or pass bills for term limits or 1/2 dozen other things they could have proposed and passed bills for. Nope they kicked the cans down the road!
They always talk the talk but never walk the walk!
Now they have to seat new leadership and they aren’t likely going to be happy with the choices.
