LA City Councilwoman Resigns as President After Mob of Protesters Show Up in Front of Her House Over ‘Racist’ Comments

The Hispanic LA City Council president, Nury Martinez, has resigned from her leadership position after a mob of protesters showed up in front of her house over leaked “racist” comments that she made.

In a statement, Martinez said, “I take responsibility for what I said and there are no excuses for those comments. I’m so sorry.”

Martinez, however, will reportedly remain on the 15-member council.

The resignation from Martinez comes after the mob of protesters showed up at her house yesterday and placed signs in front of her porch calling for her to resign.

The group also played the recordings of Martinez’s words over a bullhorn in a video that was shared by journalist Jon Peltz.

“Outside the home of LA City Council President Nury Martinez, protesters are asking for her resignation and playing the leaked recordings on a loudspeaker.”

Stand-up comic Adam Conover expressed his outrage in a tweet yesterday where he said, “This is unbelievable: LA City CouncilPresident Nury Martinez was recorded calling a fellow councilmember’s 2 year-old Black son ‘a little monkey’ and said she wanted to give him a ‘beat-down.’ She said this about a TWO YEAR OLD. @CD6Nury must resign.”

The National Review reported that Martinez introduced a motion in June 2020 to cut Los Angeles Police Department funding in the aftermath of the BLM riots.

Martinez said at the time, “American society is founded on racial hierarchy” and declared that “we can begin to slowly dismantle those systems that are designed to harm people of color.”
