Lee Zeldin May be Looking to Run for RNC Chair and Oust Mitt Romney’s Niece Ronna McDaniel After Strong Performance in New York

A day after RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel announced she would be seeking to keep the position, reports are coming out that Lee Zeldin may be favored to take over her position. Zeldin had a very strong showing in the New York Governors race and this it seems has prompted party activists to call for him to replace McDaniel.

According to John Brabender, “He [Zeldin] has received calls from around the country It’s likely that he will at least explore it. … He’s fielding calls, talking to people, listening to them, but it has not gone beyond that.”

With Republicans underperforming the polls in the midterms, with no materialization of a “red wave” many are looking at different leadership for the Republican party.

Many believe that Zeldin was able to pull others on the Republican ticket across the finish line in New York. Republicans picked up four House seats.

The RNC will choose its Chair in the upcoming January meeting, we will see if Zeldin officially throws his hat in the ring.
