On August 17th, Rashida Tlaib retweeted a tweet by Medhi Hasan, Al Jazeera TV host, chastising fellow leftist Bill Maher for his criticism of the BDS, or Boycott, Divest, Sanction movement that likely was behind the ban from Israel received by Congresswomen Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib.
Tlaib said:
Maybe folks should boycott his show.
I am tired of folks discrediting a form of speech that is centered on equality and freedom. This is exactly how they tried to discredit & stop the boycott to stand up against the apartheid in S. Africa. It didn’t work then and it won’t now

The Hill reports:
Maher drew applause in studio on his HBO show after declaring the boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) movement supported by some congressional Democrats “a bullshit purity test by people who want to appear woke but actually slept through history class.”
“It’s predicated on this notion, I think — it’s very shallow thinking — that the Jews in Israel, mostly white, and the Palestinians are browner, so they must be innocent and correct, and the Jews must be wrong. As if the occupation came right out of the blue, that this completely peaceful people found themselves occupied,” he said.
Many on the left have supported Tlaib and Omar, despite their controversial stance and statements in the past, as the left almost always sticks together regardless of the controversy.
Although Bill Maher is an avid liberal and doesn’t really like President Trump, (to say the least) he does not always play the same ‘groupthink’ game the left usually requires of politicians and Hollywood and speaks out against BOTH sides when he sees fit.
Bill Maher’s mother was Jewish so it’s not a total surprise that he spoke out on the topic, but surprising to some which side he took considering what many prominent American Jews such as Chuck Schumer have said.
Senator Chuck Schumer Tweeted out against President Trump who yesterday said Jews may be disloyal if they vote Democrat because of their support of Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar.

“Rep Tlaib wants to cut off aid to Israel. This is the new face the of Democrat Party? Read the AOC PLUS 3 statements on their hatred of Jews and Israel. Check out Rep. Omar (the great people of Minnesota won’t stand for this).”
